A few years back the first season of "Life Goes On" was released. Although I had been planning to buy it for sometime, I just never did. A couple weeks ago, I finally ordered it.
I remember watching the show as a teenager. I would wait for it each week and be horribly disappointed if I missed even a week of it. And although the show was meant to be about the integration of a young man with Down syndrome into a local highschool, I quickly got caught up in the story line related to Becca and Tyler. I remember being so excited when they got together and then horrified when they broke up.
I loved and followed the show but because there has never been reruns of the show the story lines have since faded for me and so I was excited to get my DVDs with the first season on them.
As I began watching them I quickly remembered the characters and started to get entrenched in their lives once again. But this time I have been watching with very different eyes. I am only through the first 4 shows and although there is some pretty tacky 80s type of filming and storylining going on, the general goals of the show are wonderful.
Tonight I watched the episode where Corky was feeling upset because he thought it was his fault his mother stopped singing and performing. As his mother sang to him that he was her hero my mommy heart swelled right along with hers. There truly is nothing that can be anymore amazing than parenting this very special little boy.
At the same time, I wonder who we can put pressure on to get more than the first season released as I would love the have the whole series in my video collection. Anyone know?
