last year for the last quarter i had a classroom economy. it was interesting....sounds like a post to me!

I'm planning on starting a classroom economy system for my math class (which consists of three students). They have been working on check writing and money exchanges, so I'm planning on setting up a 'checking account' for each student where they are paid for turning in homework, completing work, etc. I will give them 'money', and they have to fill out a deposit slip and enter it in their register. Then, I have items I've collected from Target's dollar section, and on Fridays they can choose to purchase items by writing a check for them. I've never done this before so I'm still trying to work out the kinks, but I'm excited about it. The only reason I haven't started yet is because I wanted to get real checkbooks for the students, and i have a few friends with contacts at banks, so I'm waiting for one of the connections to pan out where I can get donated checkbooks for them to use. Thanks for all the great math ideas, you gave me some new activities to do with my math kiddos!
